Avada alternatives for WooCommerce, and what leaving Fusion Builder costs

Shoptimizer is our pick for a store that sells from its product pages, GeneratePress if the budget is zero. A Next.js frontend is the second route. A store built page by page in Fusion Builder may do better staying and fixing one setting.

An Avada theme alternative is worth the move when the store can afford to rebuild its Fusion Builder pages. On ThemeFusion's Ecommerce demo, Avada's own combined script file came to 176 KB, against 2 to 17 KB for four lighter store themes measured the same day, and the page blocked a phone's main thread for 480 ms. The lighter themes win on code. Avada wins on exit cost, because nothing you built in it comes along. Every number below comes from a vendor's own demo store, tested on 18 October 2026 from one machine in Spain with Lighthouse 12.6.1 in mobile mode, median of three runs.

01

Count your Fusion Builder pages before you pick a theme

The rebuild is the price of leaving Avada; the license is a rounding error. Avada stores every page made in its builder as nested [fusion_builder_container], [fusion_builder_row] and [fusion_builder_column] shortcodes inside post_content. Those shortcodes mean nothing without Avada's own plugins and theme, so after a switch a designed page prints as bracketed text around your copy. Two more layers sit outside page content and do not move at all. Avada Layouts, the theme's template system, usually holds the header, footer, single-product template and shop archive. Global Options holds the colors, typography and spacing those templates read. A header is the quick part to rebuild; a product template with custom tabs, galleries and upsell rows is the slow one. Get the count before you get quotes: with WP-CLI, `wp post list --post_type=page --s=fusion_builder_container --format=count` returns the number of builder pages, and the same command with `--post_type=product` tells you whether product descriptions were built in Fusion too. A store with a dozen builder pages and plain-text product descriptions gets off cheaply. One with 400 products laid out in Fusion is looking at a content migration, not a theme change. The bundle is the last item on the bill. Avada's $69 regular license on ThemeForest ships Slider Revolution, LayerSlider, ACF Pro, Convert Plus and FileBird Pro alongside the theme, and those copies come through Avada's license. Any of them your store still uses after the switch needs its own license.

02

The Avada we measured is a pre-release build called Avada One

Treat Avada's row as a preview of where ThemeFusion is heading, not as the theme you would install today. Every avada.website demo runs a theme directory named Avada-try-full-merge whose header reads Avada One, version 0.9.13. Avada 7.16.1 is installed on the demo but inactive, and the current release is 7.16.2, dated 30 September 2026 in the official changelog. The demo also had the friendliest conditions in the set: WP Engine behind Cloudflare, every URL a cache hit, a 53 ms median server response, and no tracking tags at all. Its 59 is not a hosting problem. It was measured about 45 minutes after the other ten themes, and gaps under about 10 points are noise here. No field data exists to check it against, because the HTTP Archive Technology Report does not detect the Avada theme.

03

Most of the demo's 5.6-second LCP was a lazy-loaded hero

This is the strongest case for staying. In the second run, 3.5 to 4.1 seconds of a 5.7 to 7.2 second Largest Contentful Paint was render delay: the home and shop pages paint a `data-bg` background, and the product page a lazy-loaded image, both waiting for the 176 KB fusion-scripts file to run before the browser may fetch them. Excluding the first image on product and category templates from lazy loading, and preloading it, attacks that delay directly, and Avada's Performance panel exposes the lazy-loading switch. Avada Core Web Vitals traces LCP element by element; Avada speed optimization covers the Performance Wizard and compiler modes. The limit is blocking time. The theme, Avada Builder and Avada Core arrive as one concatenated file, and no setting splits it on a phone. If Search Console shows INP failing on product pages rather than LCP, tuning reaches less, and the routes below start to pay.

04

Shoptimizer replaces Avada's store pages with 2 KB of theme script

For a store that earns its money on product and cart pages, Shoptimizer is the move. Its demo, a 2.9.9 release candidate, sent 1.7 KB of the theme's own JavaScript and blocked the main thread for 3 ms, against Avada's 176 KB and 480 ms. The score gap, 82 to 59, is more than twice this dataset's noise. Its bundled CommerceKit plugin covers AJAX search, attribute swatches, order bumps and free-shipping notices. You pay for that in two places. Shoptimizer has no page builder, so custom product layouts from the Avada WooCommerce Builder become Customizer options; a design-led store with bespoke product pages loses more than it gains. And the price model flips: $99 a year per domain, so $297 over three years, against Avada's $69 once with updates included and six months of support.

05

Free alternatives to Avada: GeneratePress, Blocksy, and Kadence last

GeneratePress is the free replacement to try first, on weight alone. Avada's demo carried no tracking tags, and neither did these three, so for once the totals compare cleanly: Avada's demo sent 287 KB of JavaScript, these sent 66 to 118 KB.

  • GeneratePress 3.6.1: 6 KB of theme script, 65 ms of blocking time, score 88, 3.6 s LCP, and 266 DOM elements against Avada's 2,738. Free, with GP Premium at $59 a year. The free theme's last WordPress.org release was 1 December 2025, so pick it for the code, not the cadence
  • Blocksy 2.1.29 on the demo: 17 KB, 91 ms, score 74, and 50.3% of its 23,072 mobile origins passing Core Web Vitals in the Chrome UX Report. It ships often, 2.1.60 on 15 October 2026. Pro is $69 a year or $199 lifetime for one site
  • Kadence 1.4.2: 11 KB and no blocking time, but a 6.6 s LCP, slower paint than Avada's demo, and 347 KB of Google reCAPTCHA on its product page. If LCP is why you are leaving Avada, Kadence is the wrong destination. Pro, with Shop Kit for WooCommerce, is $299 a year from Liquid Web
06

Avada vs Astra comes down to 8 KB against 176

Astra on the block editor beats Avada on weight; Astra with Elementor does not. The Astra demo looks worse than Avada's, a score of 38 with 853 KB of JavaScript, but about 572 KB of that is Google Tag Manager and Meta Pixel, 94 KB is Elementor and 8 KB is Astra. Field data covers Astra only: 40.0% of 168,423 mobile origins pass, below Blocksy and GeneratePress. Astra is free, and Astra Pro is $69 a year. Rebuilding Fusion pages in Elementor trades shortcodes for a JSON tree in `_elementor_data`, which is a second exit bill waiting for later. Flatsome vs Astra breaks the demo down further.

07

Avada vs Flatsome: lighter code, a slower shop page, the same lock-in

Flatsome is the worse destination for a store leaving Avada because of exit cost. It scored 71 to Avada's 59, with 36 KB of theme script and 161 ms of blocking time, but its shop-page LCP was 7.2 s from lazy-loaded product images, and its UX Builder stores pages as ux_* shortcodes with the header in a separate builder. That is the same rebuild problem, bought again for $59. It suits a store that only wants less blocking time and is happy on ThemeForest's pay-once model; Shoptimizer vs Flatsome has the detail. Three other ThemeForest store themes would be no gain: WoodMart's demo blocked for 552 ms, longer than Avada; Porto's carried 117 KB of theme script on a 2.2 s server; XStore's blocked for 2,671 ms.

08

Avada vs Divi has no lab answer

Divi is the worse move of the two named rivals, because it fixes nothing Avada gets wrong. Elegant Themes publishes no store demo, so Divi has no lab row, and Avada has no field row; on mobile, 41.4% of 150,144 Divi origins pass Core Web Vitals, below Blocksy, Kadence and GeneratePress. Both builders write their own markup into post_content, so the switch pays for a full rebuild and buys the same exit problem later. A team that simply prefers Divi's editor is the only case for it. Divi alternatives covers that theme's own way out.

09

A Next.js storefront retires Fusion Builder along with the theme

The second route stops choosing themes. WooCommerce becomes the back office and a Next.js app draws every storefront page from its product, price and stock data, so the fusion-scripts file, the compiled fusion CSS and the jQuery base leave together while orders, payments, coupons and the admin stay put. Fusion containers become structured content and Avada Layouts become route layouts; Avada to Next.js walks through it, WordPress to Next.js the general case. Below a few hundred sessions a day it does not pay back, and a lighter theme is the better spend. Our free audit measures your own product and category templates first, and pricing lists what tuning or a rebuild costs.

What is the best alternative to the Avada theme for WooCommerce?

Shoptimizer, for most stores that sell from product pages. Its demo shipped roughly 2 KB of theme JavaScript to Avada's 176 KB, with 3 ms of blocking time against 480 ms. It costs $99 a year and has no page builder, so a store with bespoke product layouts gives those up.

Is there a free alternative to Avada?

GeneratePress and Blocksy are free on WordPress.org and both measured far lighter than Avada's demo: 6 KB and 17 KB of theme script. Kadence is free too, but its demo's LCP of 6.6 s was slower than Avada's 5.6 s.

Is Astra faster than Avada?

Astra's own code is: 8 KB against 176 KB. Its demo scored lower, 38 against 59, because that demo carries about 572 KB of tracking tags and Elementor. Astra on the block editor is lighter; Astra with Elementor usually is not.

Avada or Flatsome for a WooCommerce store?

Flatsome's demo scored 71 against 59 and blocked the main thread for a third as long, but its shop page painted slower, at 7.2 s. Both store pages as builder shortcodes, so moving from one to the other means rebuilding into the same kind of lock-in.

What happens to my pages if I switch away from Avada?

Pages built in Fusion Builder are stored as fusion_builder_container shortcodes and print as bracketed text under another theme. Avada Layouts for the header, footer and product templates do not carry over, so those get rebuilt.
