WooCommerce shipping with Royal Mail, Canada Post and Australia Post

Royal Mail: table rates at checkout, Click & Drop for labels. Canada Post: live rates on your own customer number. Australia Post: a rate table built from your MyPost Business band.

The right setup differs by country because the three carriers expose different things to WooCommerce. Royal Mail has no public rates API, so Woo's own Royal Mail extension calculates from the published price guide and prints nothing; labels come from Click & Drop. Canada Post's rating service returns your discounted price when the request carries your customer number, which makes live rates worth having there. Woo's Australia Post extension quotes standard prices and says it does not support negotiated business rates. A MyPost Business sender is better off with a table.

01

What WooCommerce gives you before any carrier plugin

Core WooCommerce has three methods per shipping zone: Flat Rate, Free Shipping and Local Pickup. Zones match top-down and each customer lands in exactly one, so a postcode zone sits above the national zone it overlaps. None of the three reads weight; Woo's Table Rate Shipping extension adds tables by weight, item count or shipping class. WooCommerce Shipping, Woo's label service, serves only US-based stores charging in dollars. A live rate is the worse option whenever the API returns a price you do not pay. When the shopper first sees that number is a separate question, covered in shipping that doesn't lose sales.

02

WooCommerce and Royal Mail: table rates at checkout, Click & Drop for labels

Start a UK store on table rates. Woo's Royal Mail extension calls no live API, because Royal Mail offers none for rates; it works from the published Royal Mail and Parcelforce price guides and hides 1st and 2nd Class on orders over £20 unless Compensation Optional is on. It prints no labels, which leaves a rate table with less control. Royal Mail's domestic pricing makes the table easy. The Postal Services Act 2011 requires a universal-service tariff uniform throughout the UK, so Truro and Lerwick cost the same. Format and weight move the price. A Large Letter stops at 750 g and 2.5 cm thick, and a shipping class for flat items catches the cheapest format a weight-only table misses. Labels come from Click & Drop, connected from its own integration settings with no WordPress plugin. It imports Processing orders up to seven days old, roughly every 15 to 30 minutes, and skips orders without product weights. Couriers break the uniform price. DPD lists a £12.50 remote area surcharge and a 50p Northern Ireland clearance charge per consignment at October 2026 rates, so if DPD carries part of your volume, a single UK zone undercharges those orders. Split them out with postcode wildcards such as BT* for Northern Ireland. Evri connects through its Bulk Send dashboard and drops off at more than 9,000 ParcelShops.

InPost lockers add a choice to the UK checkout, and a size cap

Offer InPost as an extra shipping method, never the default. It is domestic only, and Sendcloud says it does not yet reach Northern Ireland. Lockers top out at 41 x 38 x 64 cm and 15 kg. Sendcloud, free for InPost customers, puts the locker picker into the WooCommerce checkout; WooCommerce's own Local Pickup block cannot, because it lists only addresses you define yourself. The picker costs the shopper one decision before payment. Anything bigger than the large compartment needs a shipping class that hides the option.

04

WooCommerce and Canada Post: live rates on your own customer number

In Canada, start with live rates. Canada Post's Get Rates service prices each parcel from origin and destination postal codes, and a request carrying your customer number returns the discounted rate for Solutions for Small Business members. Leave it out and you get the counter price. Woo's Canada Post Shipping Method extension calls that service for domestic, US and international parcels, needs a Canadian store charging in CAD, and recommends its built-in box packer. Lettermail sits outside the API, priced from set rates at up to 500 g per parcel. A flat national rate is the worse choice here: one number has to cover a parcel across town and a parcel to Iqaluit. If you keep one anyway, give the territories their own zone with X* and Y*. Live rates stop being accurate the moment products lack dimensions. The box packer then guesses, and the customer pays the guess. The extension prints no labels. Snap Ship, Canada Post's small business tool, does, and so does PluginHive, the only WooCommerce integration on Canada Post's technology partner list. Chit Chats connects through WooCommerce REST API keys but reads HS codes only from a product attribute named hs_code.

05

Canada Post to the US: no Declaration ID, no label

Since 29 August 2025, when the US suspended its US$800 duty-free threshold, every postal shipment to the US under that value needs duties assessed and prepaid. Canada Post runs this through Zonos, and each US-bound parcel needs a 13-character Declaration ID before a label exists; above US$800 the ID is still required, with duties collected at the door. Canada Post lists WooCommerce through PluginHive among the integrated platforms and warns that third-party labels without an ID are subject to rejection. For a Canadian store whose second market is the US, that rule picks the label tool before price does.

06

WooCommerce and Australia Post: price from your MyPost Business band

For Australia, build the table from your own MyPost Business band rather than switching on live rates. MyPost Business is free, sets a savings band from your recent spend, and gives up to 40% off domestic postage at the top band. Woo's Australia Post extension calls the Australia Post Shipping API and states that it does not support discounted or negotiated business rates. So the live rate at checkout is the standard price. On a top-band account, the shopper pays well above your label cost, and the store reads as expensive. Australian postcodes are four-digit numbers, which WooCommerce zones accept as ranges: 7000...7999 for Tasmania, 0800...0999 for the Northern Territory. For labels, Australia Post's WooCommerce guide puts a shipping platform in between (Sellerdash, ShipStation or Starshipit) linked to MyPost Business by a partner token, a step it puts at about 10 minutes. A contract changes the answer. With an eParcel account and a plugin that quotes your account's rates instead of retail, live rates win, as in Canada. Sendle's plugin, built by Joovii and approved by Sendle, quotes and prints labels, though reviewers report it fails with High-Performance Order Storage. Aramex's app, also by Joovii, costs US$9.95 a month after a 60-day trial.

07

Parcel Lockers and FlexDelivery arrive as addresses

Neither Australia Post nor Canada Post needs a picker at checkout, because the shopper brings the locker as an address. At Australia Post's 1,500-plus Parcel Lockers, a shopper pastes a personalised locker address from MyPost into your delivery fields and has 2 business days to collect. Other carriers get in only by lodging parcels with Australia Post and paying for it, so a locker address sent by Sendle or Aramex is a gamble. Canada Post's FlexDelivery routes parcels to one of almost 5,900 post offices and requires the retailer to ship to a PO box. A checkout rule that blocks PO boxes turns those shoppers away silently.

08

CN22 or CN23: each carrier draws the line somewhere else

Royal Mail draws it at value: CN22 up to £270, CN23 above, with electronic customs data mandatory for goods and the HS code your responsibility, not Royal Mail's. Canada Post draws it at CA$500 at the post office, where form 43-074-172 takes over. Australia Post goes by service and weight, CN22 only on select parcels up to 2 kg, and wants an HS tariff number on every ecommerce export plus an export declaration number at $2,000 or more. WooCommerce has no HS code field, so add a product attribute before the first export. What duties the buyer owes, and who registers for VAT or GST where, sits outside a shipping setup; past the customs form, an accountant has to make that call. The duty side of landed cost is in selling internationally.

09

Where the tracking number lands in WooCommerce

Click & Drop, with Mark orders as despatched on channel switched on, posts a customer note built from {TrackingNumber} and {TrackingUrl} tokens. Woo's Shipment Tracking extension stores the number, but saving it sends nothing; the Completed Order email carries it once the status changes. Chit Chats needs a third-party add-on before customers get an email at all. Test one order per carrier before launch, because a number that never reaches an email becomes the ticket described in order tracking and WISMO.

10

Fixed prices in GBP, CAD and AUD

Our free store audit covers the zones, rate method, label integration and HS code fields described here. NextWoo invoices UK, Canadian and Australian stores in their own currency at fixed prices, with Launch Setup at £1,499, C$2,849 or A$2,899 on the pricing page. Carrier contracts, duties and tax registration stay with you and your accountant.

Contact us
Does Royal Mail Click & Drop work with WooCommerce?

Yes. Click & Drop connects from its own integration settings without a WordPress plugin, imports Processing orders up to seven days old and writes tracking back as an order note. Rates at checkout still come from your own table.

Is there an official Canada Post plugin for WooCommerce?

Yes, Woo builds the Canada Post Shipping Method extension, which shows live Canada Post rates at checkout. It prints no labels, so pair it with Snap Ship or a label plugin.

Does the WooCommerce Australia Post extension use MyPost Business rates?

No. Woo's listing says it does not support discounted or negotiated Australia Post business rates, so it quotes standard prices to a store paying discounted ones.

Can I ship to the US with Canada Post without a Declaration ID?

No. Since 29 August 2025, Canada Post will not create a US label without a 13-character Declaration ID from Zonos, whatever the declared value.
