Blocksy vs Kadence for a WooCommerce store: shop features, speed and cost

Most Blocksy vs Kadence threads compare blogs. For a store, the two tie on real-visitor data, and the deciding question is which paid shop layer you need: Blocksy's Shop Extra at $99 a year, or the $299 Kadence bundle with its checkout and gallery plugins.

Blocksy and Kadence are both free WordPress.org themes built for the block editor, with 300,000+ and 500,000+ active installs, and both sell their WooCommerce features as a paid layer. This page compares them only as store themes: shop and product templates, the extras in each paid plan, cart and checkout, and what each theme's own code weighs. Two kinds of data back it. Chrome UX Report field data for September 2026 covers every site detected on either theme. Lighthouse 12.6.1 runs on each vendor's demo store, three mobile runs per template on October 18, 2026 from one machine in Spain, show where the weight comes from. For most stores Blocksy is the better buy: it costs a third as much for comparable shop features and ships a release most weeks. Kadence wins when the plugins in its bundle replace ones you would otherwise pay for.

01

In the field the two are tied: 50.3% and 49.8%

Real-visitor data does not separate them. In September 2026, 50.3% of 23,072 Blocksy origins passed all three Core Web Vitals on mobile, and so did 49.8% of 35,642 Kadence origins. The metrics split rather than stack: Kadence sites pass LCP more often (58.3% against 56.1%), Blocksy sites pass CLS more often (91.6% against 88.6%), and INP is level at 88.3% and 88.9%. Desktop runs the same way, 59.5% against 60.6%. Both sit just above WordPress as a whole at 48.3%. These rows count every site HTTP Archive detected on each theme, blogs and brochure sites included, and the people who pick either theme may simply buy better hosting. So the data supports one conclusion and no more. A store choosing between Blocksy and Kadence for speed is tuning the variable that matters least here.

02

The 11-point lab gap is one product page

Blocksy's demo scored 74 and Kadence's 63, just past the 10-point band that run-to-run noise covers in this dataset, and nearly all of it comes from one template. Home pages scored 74 and 63. Shop pages went the other way, 76 for Kadence against 71, with Kadence's main thread blocked for 0 ms. Product pages scored 76 against 59. Kadence's product page drew nothing for 6.7 seconds. Twenty stylesheets, a Google Fonts request and jQuery sat in its render-blocking list, and the gallery image, downloaded within 1.4 seconds, was not painted until 8.5. The same page loads 347 KB of Google reCAPTCHA through the iThemes Security Pro plugin, which cost 900 to 970 ms of scripting per run and lifts the page's JavaScript to 479 KB against 78 KB on the shop page. That is a security setting the demo's builder chose, not Kadence's code. Set it aside and the theme layers are close: 11 KB of Kadence's own JavaScript, Kadence Pro included, against Blocksy's 17 KB with Blocksy Companion. Blocksy's most expensive script comes from its host, too. Cloudflare's bot check took 290 to 390 ms per run on the Blocksy demo, against 40 to 70 ms for Blocksy's main bundle.

03

Kadence's demo runs its paid shop plugins; Blocksy's runs none

The lab comparison is lopsided in a way the scores hide. Kadence's Mega Store demo loads the paid stack, and Blocksy's Modern Shop demo loads the free theme with the free Companion modules, a cookie notice among them, plus WooCommerce's stock PhotoSwipe gallery. None of Blocksy's Shop Extra code for quick view, swatches or filters is on it.

  • Kadence Pro on the shop grid: infinite scroll, about 9 KB of script, plus a mega menu
  • Kadence Pro on the product page: a sticky add-to-cart bar
  • Shop Kit on the product page: a Splide gallery slider, a lightbox, variation swatches, a size chart and accordion tabs, 41 KB in all
  • Kadence Blocks and Kadence Blocks Pro on the homepage, including the slider that is its LCP element
04

Checkout: Kadence sells a replacement, Blocksy restyles WooCommerce's own

Neither demo's cart or checkout was measured, so this axis rests on feature lists. Kadence's Pro bundle includes Flux Checkout, a multi-step checkout that replaces WooCommerce's page, along with Iconic Sales Booster, WooCommerce Delivery Slots and the upsells, cross-sells and order bumps the bundle lists. Blocksy's Business plan keeps WooCommerce's own checkout and works around it: an off-canvas cart, an added-to-cart popup, a free-shipping bar, a quantity input on the checkout page and custom thank-you pages. If the checkout itself is what you want to change, Blocksy is the weaker choice. Treat a multi-step checkout as an experiment with a control group, because it replaces a page that every payment and shipping plugin on the store hooks into. Both demos also load WooCommerce's cart-fragments script on every template, home and shop included, and disabling cart fragments works the same on either theme.

05

$99 a year buys Blocksy's shop layer; Kadence's starts at $299

Blocksy Pro's Personal plan, $69 a year, does not include Shop Extra. Business does, at $99 a year or $299 lifetime for up to 10 sites. Kadence's pricing page lists two plans: Pro at $299 a year, with Shop Kit, security, backups and memberships, and Elite at $499 with A/B testing and white-label tools. It states no site count and offers no lifetime license. Over three years one store pays $297 for Blocksy Business on annual billing against $897 for Kadence Pro. The bundle earns back that difference only when its other parts replace bills you already pay, and a store whose managed host already includes daily backups and a firewall would be paying for those twice.

06

37 Blocksy releases this year, six for Kadence

Blocksy shipped 37 versions in 2026, up to 2.1.60 on October 15. The Kadence theme shipped six, the latest 1.5.2 on July 24. Most of Kadence's store features live in its plugins, which keep their own schedules, so a quiet theme changelog says little about Shop Kit. Both demos lag their own vendors: Blocksy's runs 2.1.29 from February 2026 and Kadence's 1.4.2 from November 2025.

07

Variation-heavy catalogs suit Kadence; most other stores suit Blocksy

Pick Blocksy for a store with straightforward products, under $100 a year to spend on theme features, and someone who will keep the block editor tidy. Pick Kadence when the catalog lives on variations and configuration. WooThumbs variation galleries, Linked Variations, Product Configurator and Bundled Products all come in its bundle, and a Blocksy store would buy each separately. Kadence is the worse choice for a small shop that wants swatches and quick view and nothing else, since it pays $299 a year for a stack it barely touches. Switching later is cheap in both directions. Pages are block markup on both, and Kadence Blocks is a plugin that keeps working under another theme; the header, footer and Customizer settings are what gets rebuilt by hand, as Kadence to Next.js sets out for a move off WordPress entirely. If a store on either theme still fails Core Web Vitals, look past the theme: on both demos the costliest scripts belonged to a security plugin and a host. A free audit splits your own pages by layer, and WoodMart vs Blocksy covers the heavier ThemeForest option.

Is Blocksy or Kadence better for WooCommerce?

Blocksy for most stores: sites running it pass Core Web Vitals as often as Kadence sites, and its shop features cost $99 a year against $299. Kadence is better when its bundled checkout, variation and bundle plugins replace ones you would buy anyway.

Which is faster, Blocksy or Kadence?

Neither, on real-visitor data: 50.3% of Blocksy sites and 49.8% of Kadence sites pass Core Web Vitals on mobile. Blocksy's demo scored higher in the lab, 74 against 63, almost entirely because one Kadence product page loaded reCAPTCHA and 20 render-blocking stylesheets.

Why does Reddit disagree about Blocksy vs Kadence?

Most threads test a blog or an empty install, and single PageSpeed runs swing: Kadence's demo homepage scored 65, 50 and 63 within twenty minutes. For a store, compare product pages with the shop plugins you will actually run.

Do I need Blocksy Pro for a WooCommerce store?

Only for swatches, quick view, AJAX filters, the wishlist, size guides and the rest of Shop Extra, which starts at the $99 Business plan. The $69 Personal plan does not include it.

Is Kadence Pro worth $299 a year for one store?

Only if you will use Shop Kit's checkout, variation and bundle tools, or need the bundled backups and security. A store that wants swatches and quick view gets them from Blocksy Business for $99.

Can I switch from Kadence to Blocksy later?

Yes, and cheaply. Pages are block markup, and Kadence Blocks keeps working under another theme. Header, footer and Customizer settings are rebuilt by hand, and features from the Kadence Pro add-on need replacements.
